Tell us about your first and favourite cars.
My favourite car is a 1969 Mustang Mach 1, which also happens to be my very first car in red and black.
What’s your favourite automotive pastime?
Driving around in my 1955 Buick as a teenager and collecting cars ever since. At one time I had 50 cars from the 1930’s to the 1990’s and built my own 1934 Ford coupe. I also love water skiing!
Why did you first become a motor mechanic?
I wanted to learn to work on my own vehicles and enjoyed it so much I decided to make it my life. When I resecued a few broken down friends, they nick named me Captain Mechanic. It started to make sense that that was what I should do.
MUST READ: How often should I service my car?
What’s the best thing about being a motor mechanic?
I love the satisfaction of fixing broken things and bringing non-running engines back to life.
What’s your automotive specialty?
My strongest is American cars, but since we’re in Australia; Japanese, Holden, and Ford Petrol are my strongest. I am good on all areas of the car.
What is the best automotive advice you have ever received?
Make sure you put oil in it! But in all seriousness; with my first job, my manager told me “you will be a great mechanic one day if you stick with it.” It meant a lot, and I decided my career at that point.
