STEP 4: USE A PROFESSIONAL QUOTING TOOL (ADVANCED OPTION)

 ALL the big brands and ALL professional automotive repairers use an approved quoting system. There are various systems on the market, however, they’re all powered by two players in Australia.

If you’re not using one of these tools you are:

• Wasting time trying to quote with no real information
• Not competitive
• Underquoting yourself

We hear many mobile mechanics say “I only spent one hour on-site, 1 can’t charge the 90mins book time.” Rubbish. You’re not being paid for the time you spend on site. You’re being paid for the service you provide. If everyone else is charging 90mins, why can’t you also charge 90mins?

Having a professional quoting system on a tablet or laptop on-site that you can share with the customer helps to explain your pricing and provide reassurance to the customer that you’re quoting correctly. You also look way more professional than the guys who make it up on a piece of paper. Again, this is one of the biggest differences between an $80 mechanic and a $120 mechanic. 

WHICH SOFTWARE TO USE

They’re all basically the same as they all use the same backend supplier. The primary supplier in Australia is Autodata. You can use Autodata directly, via Capricorn Service Data, via Repco SmartQuote and via Burson Ezyparts. They all provide the same outcome.

Note: You don’t actually need to buy your parts from Repco to use SmartQuote. You can use the system to quote your service times and then manage your parts elsewhere, if you choose.
