- You see fluid on your garage floor (likely power steering leak)
- You hear a grinding noise when you turn the steering wheel (likely power steering leak); or
- You hear a loud squealing sound when you make a sharp turn (likely the drive belt is slipping); or
- The steering wheel has become very hard to turn (likely a split hose). If you notice any of these symptoms head to your local mechanic.
It is likely a problem with your cars power steering. First check that your cars brake lights are working. A blown brake light globe can impact the cars electronics as a safety measure. If the globes are working fine your car may have a worn or blown power steering hose. This will need to be replaced by your mechanic.
If the light is red the steering is likely to be defecting and potentially dangerous. You should not drive and call your Blue Toro mechanic straight away. If the light is orange the power steering is likely disables, causing the steering to be heavier than normal. It’s time to book in your mechanic as soon as possible.
This could indicate that your power steering oil level is low. All fluid levels should be checked and topped up at each service. A power steering fluid flush should also be part of your cars ongoing maintenance schedule. If you hear this sound ask your mechanic to check the power steering fluid level and top up if required.
Topping up and replacing power steering fluid should be part of your normal preventative maintenance. Power steering fluid should be checked and topped up if necessary by your mechanic at every service. A full flush and replacement of fluid should be done every 60,000-80,000km, or 3-4 years, whichever comes first.
